away from the everyday grind — well then you’ve come to the right place.

In this guide, we’ll walk you through our top picks for the most unique places to stay in Ireland. All have been chosen by two actual Irish people who know this island, who actively seek out off-the-beaten-track stays, and who won’t waste your time with anything less than brilliant.

So let’s start planning your perfect unique Irish getaway!

Unique Places to Stay in Ireland: Our Top 7

Our list of unique places to stay in Ireland covers the full island — south to north, east to west, and
even a beautiful island off the wild west coast.

We’ve tried to think of every kind of traveller here: the couple looking for a romantic break in Ireland, the group of friends after something a bit special, and the solo adventurer who wants to disappear into the Irish wilderness for a few days.

One thing they all have in common: every single one has its own kitchen. We know these unique
stays in Ireland can be on the pricier side, but having a kitchen lets you cook a few meals
yourselves and make the cost a whole lot more manageable. Stock up at a local market and you’ve
already made the trip even more Irish.

Here are our top 7 unique places to stay in Ireland, in order of our favourites.

1. Unique Places to Stay in Ireland: Irish Cottage – Inis Mór, Co. Galway

No list of unique places to stay in Ireland would be complete without a traditional Irish thatched cottage, and this one takes it a step further by sitting on Inis Mór, the largest of the Aran Islands off the west coast of Ireland in Galway Bay. It really doesn’t get more authentically Irish than this.

The first time we visited Inis Mór, we genuinely didn’t know what to expect. What we found was an
island that felt like it existed outside of time. Ancient ruins, dramatic limestone cliffs, Irish spoken on
every corner, and a pace of life that made the mainland feel like a distant memory.

We spent an afternoon cycling the island’s narrow lanes, came across Dún Aonghasa almost by accident, this incredible Iron Age fort perched on the edge of a 100-metre cliff and ended the evening in a small local pub with a pint of Guinness and a traditional music session. We wouldn’t have changed a single thing!

The cottage has 5 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, a fully equipped kitchen, and a terrace with gorgeous
sea views. Ferries depart regularly from Doolin in County Clare and take between 45 minutes
and an hour, which, as you’ll see below, makes it very easy to combine with one of our Doolin
picks for the ultimate mini break in Ireland.

2. Unique Places to Stay in Ireland: The Cliffe – Co. Donegal

If you are looking for unique places to stay in Ireland with some top attractions and scenery a short road trip away, The Cliffe at the Quay in County Donegal should be right at the top of your list.

We drove up to Donegal on a grey, blustery day, but the scenery just got better the further north we
went. From Donegal, we did a day trip to Derry city and the famous murals. The following day, we drove the Causeway Coastal Route to Belfast, visiting the Giant’s Causeway along the way.

After every day of exploring and chilly Irish evenings, we returned to our deluxe suite and slipped straight into our private hot tub, Kevin with a pint of Guinness of course! It was an experience we still talk about, and a stay that made our mini break in Ireland feel truly worth every penny.
