Adare Manor, Co. Limerick — The Ryder Cup 2027 Host Venue

This is where it all happens. In September 2027, Adare Manor becomes the centre of the golfing world for the Ryder Cup’s 100th anniversary. Tom Fazio’s redesign of the Robert Trent Jones Snr layout stretches over 7,500 yards along the River Maigue and Adare Manor has been named Ireland’s Best Golf Course at the World Golf Awards.

The course will be closed to outside play in the build-up to and during Ryder Cup 2027, but it reopens to resort guests afterwards. Book a stay at the resort itself if playing the actual Ryder Cup course, rather than just watching from the gallery, is the goal.

Note on the name: the official name of the course hosting the 2027 Ryder Cup is The Golf Course at Adare Manor, not Adare Manor Golf Course, more on that below.

As already mentioned above, this is Adare Manor Golf Club, not the course where the Ryder Cup is being hosted. It sits right next door on the same estate, and while it lives in the shadow of its famous neighbour, Adare Manor Golf Club is every bit as beautiful.

Adare Manor Golf Club is thirty minutes from Limerick City. The course winds through old castle ruins, an old friary and some genuinely gorgeous countryside, a shorter course, a par 69 playing around 5,800 yards, and one I’ve played myself. The standout hole for me is the 14th, a long uphill par 3 that plays right between the trees and the ruins of the old Franciscan Abbey. It’s the kind of hole that makes you pause before teeing off and think, this is exactly why I came to Ireland to play golf.

2. Trump International Golf Links Doonbeg, Co. Clare

The Trump International Golf Links in Doonbeg hosted the 2026 Irish Open, and Shane Lowry didn’t just win it, he set the tournament record, closing with a final round 63 to win by 11 shots, the biggest margin in the Irish Open history. I was there for this one myself, close to my wife Kate’s family home in Clare, standing in the Saturday crowd when Lowry put together one of the best rounds of golf I’ve ever seen.

The course itself, a Greg Norman design later reworked by Martin Hawtree after President Trump bought the resort in 2014, sits along 1.5 miles of dune-backed coastline at Doughmore Bay, with the par-3 14th rated one of the best short holes in golf.

President Trump was in Ireland on a state visit that weekend, and Air Force One did a flyby right over the course, before he ended up handing Lowry the trophy himself on the 18th green the following day. You don’t get that at many golf tournaments.

3. Lahinch Golf Club, Co. Clare

Lahinch Golf Club is another popular golf course in Clare, I’ve played Lahinch a few times over the years, enough to know that “hard when it’s windy” is an understatement, since in Ireland the wind is basically always up.

The Old Course is one of the most famous golf courses in Ireland, and is often called the “St. Andrews of Ireland .” Laid out by Old Tom Morris in 1894 and reshaped by Alister MacKenzie in 1926, and the resident goats by the third tee have been an informal weather forecast for over a century: out grazing the dunes means fair weather is coming, huddled near the clubhouse means it isn’t.

No buggies are allowed, both courses here are walking courses. Lahinch also hosted the 2026 Walker Cup, an amateur team event played every two years between the US and Great Britain & Ireland, further proof this is a serious championship test and not just a scenic warm-up.

4. Connemara Golf Links, Co. Galway

5. Portumna Golf Club, Co. Galway

One of the best budget-friendly golf courses in Ireland, Portumna Golf Club is a quiet parkland course in Portumna Forest Park on the shores of Lough Derg, where Irish deer regularly cross the fairways, so often the club’s own emblem is a deer, with a stag statue by the first tee. The par-5 17th, a blind tee shot down to a lake-lined green, is talked about as one of the best individual holes in Ireland.

6. Waterville Golf Links, Co. Kerry

South on the Ring of Kerry, Waterville is the first place in Ireland with an International Dark Sky Reserve, and it is also a links steeped in golf legend and one of the best-known stops on any Ireland golf trip.

Payne Stewart, Tiger Woods and Mark O’Meara all used it as a warm-up for the Open Championship, and Stewart loved it so much the club made him honorary captain, a life-sized bronze statue of him now stands on the course as a tribute after his death in a 1999 plane crash.

A mile down the road from Waterville, Hogs Head is the newest course on this list, opened in 2017, but already one of the best golf courses in Ireland. 8. Fota Island Resort, Co. Cork

Just east of Cork City, Fota Island hosted the Irish Open in 2001, 2002 and 2014, and it’s the reason why I fell in love with golf. Fota Island Golf Club, part of the wider Fota Island Resort.

Fota Island Golf Resort has three separate 18-hole courses within it: The Deerpark (the championship layout, the one that’s hosted the Irish Open three times and has the signature par-5 10th), The Belvelly, and The Barryscourt.

Fota Island Resort is genuinely one of the best golf courses in Ireland too, not just a scenic resort stopover, the Deerpark layout was designed by Christy O’Connor Jr, an Irish Ryder Cup player himself, and its signature hole is the par-5 10th, a tree-lined dogleg left to a green tucked right against the lake.

Furthermore, Fota Island Resort is also close to my hometown of Cobh, with some of the best attractions in Ireland, such as the Titanic’s last port of call and the Cobh Heritage Centre.

9. Old Head Golf Links, Kinsale, Co. Cork

Out past Kinsale, Old Head is perched on a diamond-shaped headland with the Atlantic on three sides, one of the most photographed golf courses in the world, and one of the most expensive on this list at around €395 for 18 holes. Nine holes play directly along 300-foot cliffs, with a lighthouse dating back to 1853 worked right into the routing.

The signature hole is the par-5 12th, nicknamed Heaven’s Gate, a dramatic tee shot straight over a sea inlet with cliffs on one side and open ocean on the other. There’s real history out here too, the Lusitania was torpedoed just 11 miles off this exact headland in 1915, one of the deadliest maritime disasters of the First World War, and the clubhouse still has a bar named after her.

Kinsale is one of the best stops on this Ireland golf holiday, not just because Old Head is the most famous golf courses in Ireland with a lighthouse built right into it, but because Kinsale itself is officially the Gourmet Capital of Ireland, and it earns that title with some of the best seafood you’ll find anywhere in the country.

Charles Fort, a huge 17th-century star-shaped fort just outside town, is the main attraction here, well worth the walk out for the harbour views alone. Dublin is a great starting or finishing point for this Ireland golf trip, for US and UK visitors alike, since it usually carries the cheapest and widest range of flights of any Irish airport. The tradeoff is that you’re not landing near Adare, it’s a 2.5 hour drive west, so it works best as a bookend rather than your first stop. 10. Brittas Bay Club (formerly The European Club), Co. Wicklow

This is one of the great stories in Irish golf. In the late 1980s, golf writer Pat Ruddy hired a helicopter and spent weeks scouring the Irish coastline for the perfect site to build his own course. He found it at Brittas Bay, mortgaged his house to buy the land, and personally drove the bulldozer for years shaping the dunes. When he opened for business on Boxing Day 1992, he sat at the gate and collected the green fee from every golfer by hand.

In 2025, Ruddy sold the course to father-and-son duo Raymond and Nickly Conlon, and it’s now mid-renovation under golf architect Kyle Phillips. It’s closed for the rework and expected to reopen under its new name, Brittas Bay Club, in 2027, timing that could line up neatly with the Ryder Cup itself, though nothing’s confirmed yet.

11. Druids Glen Golf Club, Co. Wicklow

Known as the Augusta of Europe for its manicured parkland setting and a Celtic-cross-marked 12th hole modelled on Augusta’s famous par-3, Druids Glen was designed by Pat Ruddy and Tom Craddock and hosted the Irish Open four years running from 1996 to 1999. 12. The K Club, Co. Kildare

Just west of Dublin is the K Club. I was there in 2006 when Europe demolished the USA at the K Club Ryder Cup, 18.5 to 9.5, still one of the most one-sided results in the competition’s history. The Palmer North Course, designed by Arnold Palmer, is a lush, water-heavy parkland test that’s hosted multiple Irish Opens since and stands on its own merits, Ryder Cup history aside.

Being in Kildare also puts you right in Ireland’s thoroughbred country. Punchestown Racecourse, home of Irish jump racing, is only about 20 minutes away, an easy pairing to your Ireland golf trip if racing’s your thing.

We’re now moving into Northern Ireland for the final two stops on this list. Remarkably, there are no direct flights from Belfast to the US. Belfast Airport works well if you’re coming from the UK, but if you’re flying from the US, route through Dublin or Shannon and drive up instead.
