We visited Kelingking Beach in the late afternoon, hoping to avoid the crowds – but it was still packed. That’s just something to expect when visiting one of the most photographed beaches in the world.
While the views were undeniably stunning, the sheer number of people does take away from the serenity a bit. Still, moments like these are part of the experience – and for many, they still tip the scale toward yes when asking is Nusa Penida worth visiting.
What is the fee to visit Kelingkiing Beach?
There is no entrance fee to visit Kelingking Beach but you have to pay a small parking fee of IDR 5k (US$ 0.35). If you’re visiting as part of a Nusa Penida tour, the parking fee is usually included.

Angel’s Billabong was closed during our visit to Nusa Penida, although, we doubt we would have entered even if it was open.
Shockingly, when we visited, the caution signs warning tourists about the dangers of freak waves at Angel’s Billabong had been covered with social media stickers. Needless to say, it was infuriating to see such an important safety message obscured – especially at one of Nusa Penida’s top attractions.
That said, if you’re cautious and stick to safe viewing areas, you will be grand! Just be smart folks and stay safe, please!!

3. Nusa Penida Things To Do: Broken Beach (Pasih Uug) – A Scenic Walk to One of Nusa Penida’s Most Photogenic Spots
One of our favorite short walks on the island is the trail that leads from Angel’s Billabong to Broken Beach. This easy, scenic route winds along rugged cliffs and opens up to one of Nusa Penida’s most striking natural features – a dramatic coastal arch forming a bridge over crystal-clear turquoise waters.
The views here are nothing short of breathtaking, offering a perfect opportunity to soak in the wild beauty that defines the island.
What is the fee for visiting Broken Beach and Angel Billabong?
Both Broken Beach and Angel Billabong are completely free to visit. The only thing you have to pay for is a parking fee of IDR 10k (US$ 0.65).

Manta Point is one of Nusa Penida’s must-visit spots for those looking to get up close to nature. Famous for its incredible diving and snorkeling opportunities, it’s a place where you might be lucky enough to encounter majestic manta.
If that sounds terrifying to you, or you’re not into diving, don’t worry! There’s a Manta viewpoint on the island that offers breathtaking panoramic views of the snorkel area below, as well as the towering, rugged cliffs surrounding it.
Many visitors to Manta Point have been fortunate enough to spot the majestic manta rays from this popular viewpoint. Even if you don’t catch a glimpse of these incredible creatures, the stunning coastal views alone make it a must-see spot in Nusa Penida.
We actually preferred the view at Manta Point over the more famous Kelingking Beach viewpoint.
Why? Because we had this special spot completely to ourselves. Plus, the landscape here actually reminded us a bit of home in Ireland – which is always a welcomed surprise!

What About The Other Nusa Penida Attractions?
Many of the top-rated attractions on the “Best Things to Do in Nusa Penida” list involve trekking down steep coastal cliffs to witness scenic waterfalls. However, after reading MANY reviews, it became apparent that some of these waterfalls are more of a trickle of water flowing from a tank rather than the majestic cascades visitors might expect.
In these cases, we opted to respect Nusa Penida’s rugged, wild landscapes by appreciating the views from a safe viewpoint above the cliffs. After learning about the tragic accidents that occurred on the island, we felt confident in deciding to admire the beauty from a distance and respect Nusa Penida’s nature.
If, however, you would like to experience some of the most stunning (safe and worthwhile) waterfalls in Indonesia check out Tumpak Sewu, Java, and Tiu Kelep, Lombok.
While there are beautiful beaches on Nusa Penida, such as Suwehan Beach, Crystal Bay, and Atuh Beach, which offer great snorkeling opportunities, we decided to focus on the island’s more unique attractions in this article.

How Do I Get Around Nusa Penida?
Renting a scooter on Nusa Penida typically costs between 75,000-85,000 IDR per day, making it an affordable and convenient way to explore the island.
The Nusa Penida road trip around the island is beautiful, however, some parts of the road are awful, with craters more than potholes. Even though this is frustrating, just drive slowly and you will be fine.
If you do not fancy driving around Nusa Penida yourself it is possible to join a tour or hire a driver.
What is the Best Time to Visit Nusa Penida?
The best time to visit Nusa Penida is during the dry season, which typically runs from April to October.
Dry Season (April to October):
Weather: This period experiences less rainfall, providing sunny days and calm seas for outdoor activities and sightseeing.
*Be aware that Peak season in Nusa Penida occurs within this period (July and August) leading to higher accommodation and activity prices as well as more crowds. We visited this Nusa Island in January and it was already busy!
Shoulder Seasons (April to June, September to October):
These months offer favorable weather conditions with fewer crowds compared to the peak season.
Wet Season (November to March):
The wet season brings higher chances of rainfall, occasional storms, and rough seas. Some Nusa Penida attractions may be more challenging to access during this time. However, the Nusa island can still be visited during the wet season, especially during the transitional months of November and March.

The Big Question – Is Nusa Penida Worth Visiting?
We spent 4-days exploring Nusa Penida island and enjoyed ourselves, HOWEVER, in hindsight, we would have booked a Nusa Penida day trip from Bali.
We are traveling full time and thankfully have the luxury of time, however, if you are short on time on an Indonesia holiday then a Nusa Penida day trip is plenty to see what the island has to offer.
We would suggest using your time saved to further explore beautiful Bali, soak up the paradise islands of the Gili Islands, take on an adventure trip in Java, or explore off-the-beaten-path in Lombok.
