We’ll begin our 2-week Indonesia itinerary in Yogyakarta, then make our way across East Java, visiting some of Indonesia’s top natural wonders, and concluding in Banyuwangi after climbing Mount Ijen.
From Banyuwangi, a short ferry ride will take you to Bali, where we’ll explore the cultural gem of Ubud. Using Ubud as a base we will visit more natural spectacular attractions and visit some of the most beautiful water temples in the world.
Wrapping up an incredible 14-day Indonesia itinerary, you’ll unwind for a few days in either lively Kuta, known for its vibrant nightlife, or the idyllic paradise Gili Islands.

2-Week Indonesia Itinerary in Detail
Now that you have a basic idea of the 2-week Indonesia itinerary we are putting forward, let’s get into details of what each day of your Indonesia trip will involve.
Day 1-2: Yogyakarta, East Java
- Day 1: Arrive in Yogyakarta, (don’t get confused with the capital Jakarta!) Start your adventure by exploring the city in a traditional Becak bike taxi, they are everywhere! Now you can also start indulging in delicious Indonesian cuisine!
- Day 2: Begin your day bright and early to witness the sunrise at Borobudur Temple, an awe-inspiring 9th-century Buddhist marvel shaped like a pyramid. Capture breathtaking photos of the numerous Buddha statues that the morning light will illuminate. Afterward, explore the magnificent Prambanan Temples, renowned for their towering spires and detailed stone carvings. Both structures are UNESCO World Heritage sites.
Day 3-4: Malang, East Java
- Day 3: Travel to Malang from Yogyakarta, this will take around 6 hours. Once in Malang, explore the city. In particular, visit and learn about the colorful village of Jodipan.
- Day 4: From Malang, you will visit one of Indonesia’s greatest waterfalls – the spectacular Tumpak Sewu Waterfall.
Day 5-6: Cemoro Lawang, East Java
- Day 5: Travel from Malang to the village of Cemoro Lawang, the perfect place to base yourself when visiting Mount Bromo. Experience a breathtaking sunset at Mentigen Hill.
- Day 6: The day kicks off at 3 am to begin your easy hike to King Kong Hill viewpoint for one of the most impressive landmarks you will ever see – Mount Bromo at sunrise! Following the morning spectacle, return to Cemoro Lawang for the morning. In the afternoon hike to Mount Bromo itself, where you’ll experience the rumbling of nature’s core and the rising smoke firsthand.
Day 7: Banyuwangi, East Java
- Day 7: Travel to Banyuwangi from Mount Bromo. You will start your trek to Mount Ijen after midnight to witness the famous Mount Ijen blue fire, sulfur mining, and a sunrise over the largest acid lake in the world.

Day 8-11: Ubud, Bali
- Day 8: The day begins with you returning from Mount Ijen. Take a short ferry ride from Banyuwangi Port, Java to Gilimanuk, Bali. Welcome to Bali! From here you will travel to Ubud, which will take around 6 hours altogether. If time permits, explore the Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary in Ubud.
- Day 9: Start the day by visiting the iconic Ulun Danu, a picturesque water temple dedicated to Hindu gods. Following that, explore two of Bali’s top waterfalls. Firstly, the largest waterfall – Sekumpul. And afterward, the most picturesque waterfall in Bali – the enchanting Banyumala.
- Day 10: Today’s activity begins with a visit to one of the most beautiful gardens in the world – Tegalalang Rice Terraces. Afterward, experience cultural and spiritual enlightenment in Gunung Kawi known for its striking rock-cut shrines dedicated to kings and queens. Cleanse yourself in Tirta Empul Temple, famous for its holy spring water. And lastly, Goa Gajah, also known as the Elephant Cave.
- Day 11: The last of all hikes. A sunrise trek to Mount Batur’s Summit, an active volcano with panoramic views of the surrounding landscape and Lake Batur.
Day 12-14: Kuta, Bali
- Day 12: Transfer from Ubud to Kuta. A lively town with perfect sunset beaches and plenty of markets for souvenir shopping. Nightfall marks the beginning of the vibrant nightlife scene.
- Day 13: Take a day trip to the nearby Nusa Islands to discover rugged natural attractions such as Kelingking Beach, Manta Point, and Broken Beach.
- Day 14: Oh no, the last day…. You still have time to visit Uluwatu Temple and say goodbye to Indonesia with a trip to Tanah Lot. Afterward, hang around Seminyak for a sunset with a well-deserved cocktail.

- That is a wrap to our ultimate 2-week Indonesia itinerary. Time to return home. The most convenient location to base yourself for the airport is in Kuta. From there a taxi to to airport will be 10 – 20 minutes.
