Senaru is a popular starting point for treks to Mount Rinjani, and many tourists visit Tiu Kelep and Sendang Gile waterfalls as part of their Lombok travel itinerary.

Visitors often reach the waterfalls by traveling to Senaru village in northern Lombok.
We recommend entering and exiting through Sendang Gate 1 for an easier walk. From there, you can follow well-marked trekking paths to the waterfalls.

Yes, there is an entrance fee to access Tiu Kelep and Sendang Gile Waterfalls. The entrance fee is a very reasonable 20,000 IDR/1.20 Euro per person. This fee helps support the maintenance and preservation of the natural environment.
Lombok Travel: Are There Guided Tours Available for Tiu Kelep and Sendang Gile Waterfalls?
Yes, you can pre-book a tour which will include transport to and from the falls or if you have your own transport (and for a much lower cost) opt for a local guide who will offer his services at the entrance to the falls.
Alternatively, you can check with your Lombok accommodation if they arrange tours.

Taking a guide isn’t mandatory since finding your way down is easy enough. However, there are perks to having a local guide. They will help you capture fantastic photos (they truly put in a lot of effort), bring you to lesser-known spots around the river, and help you on your way across some of the trickier parts.
We did not use a guide but ultimately, the choice is entirely yours to make.
Lombok Travel: Can You Swim in Tiu Kelep and Sendang Gile Waterfalls?
Swimming is possible at Tiu Kelep waterfall, but it’s important to be cautious due to strong currents.
Sendang Gile waterfall is usually not recommended for swimming but we recommend at least walking through the fall for an exceptionally invigorating experience.

Lombok Travel: What is the Best Time to Visit Tiu Kelep and Sendang Waterfalls?
The best time to visit Tiu Kelep and Sendang waterfalls is during the dry season (May to October) when the weather is more predictable and the trails are less slippery. However, these stunning Lombok waterfalls can be visited year-round.
The best time of the day to visit is before 10 am. It tends to get quite busy after this time.
We arrived at the waterfall at 9 am and were the only ones there for our entire visit. It was absolutely fantastic.

Lombok Travel: How Long Does it Take to Hike to Tiu Kelep and Sendang Gile Waterfalls?
The Tiu Kelep and Sendang Gile waterfall hike is pretty easy.
From the entrance, you will arrive at Sendang Gile waterfall after only 10-15 minutes.
From here, it is a further 30 minutes, depending on your fitness level, to Tiu Kelep waterfall.
The Tiu Kelep waterfall hike will involve some minimal scrambling over rocks and walking through shallow water, so make sure to wear appropriate footwear that you don’t mind getting wet.

Lombok Travel: Are There Facilities Like Restaurants or Restrooms Near Tiu Kelep and Sendang Gile Waterfalls?
There are local restaurants (warungs) at the entrance to these Lombok waterfalls, and also some stalls selling water/snacks at Sendang Gile waterfall.
Sometimes, it’s uncertain whether these facilities will be open or they might have limited availability. It’s a good idea to bring your own snacks and water for the hike, just in case.
Lombok Travel: What Should I Bring for the Hike to Tiu Kelep and Sedang Gile Waterfalls?
It’s advisable to bring sturdy hiking shoes, a hat, sunscreen, insect repellent, a ziplock bag for your phone, and a dry bag for all your belongings to protect them from the spray of the falls.
Of course, always bring water/snacks for your hikes.
Finally, If you plan to swim, bring a change of clothes, unless you are staying in a nearby guesthouse/hotel.
Wear shoes you don’t mind getting wet as you will have to walk through shallow water for some parts.
Lombok Travel: Can I Camp Near Tiu Kelep and Sendang Gile Waterfalls?
Camping is not allowed near Tiu Kelep and Sendang Gile waterfalls. Visitors typically hike to the waterfalls as a Lombok day trip and return to Senaru or other nearby Lombok accommodations.
We stayed in Pondok Guru Bakti Cottage less than 1km from the falls and can highly recommend.
It is possible to go tubing at Tiu Kelep and Sendang Gile waterfalls. This will cost 100k/€5.90 PP – Although when they saw we weren’t interested they offered 100k for both of us. It was still a hard no for us, as it is a tubing experience through a dark tunnel for 5 – 6 minutes….. No thanks!
