When is the Best Time to Visit in Sarandë Albania?
The best time to visit Sarandë, Albania is during the warmer months from May to September, when the weather is sunny and perfect for swimming, beach days, and exploring the Albanian Riviera.
June to August is peak season in Sarandë, when the town is busiest, the beaches are crowded, and temperatures can be very hot. If you enjoy lively atmospheres and nightlife, this is the time to go — but for a more relaxed experience, we personally prefer the shoulder and off-peak months.
During our time living in Albania for over a year, we found that visiting in the shoulder and off-peak seasons is ideal. The weather remains pleasant, with fewer crowds, lower prices, and a more authentic experience.
We also visited Sarandë in March, when the town was much quieter. While we did experience a few rainy days, some restaurants were still closed for the winter season, accommodation prices were incredibly affordable, making it a great option for budget travellers visiting Sarandë.

Getting to Sarandë, Albania?
When we first arrived in Albania for what was supposed to be a two-month trip, we flew into Tirana International Airport (TIA) from Ireland and rented a car in Tirana (Discover Cars). The drive from Tirana, Albania’s capital, to Sarandë is about 174 km and takes roughly 3.5 hours.
Since we had extra time, we added stops along the way to our itinerary, visiting the coastal town of Vlore and the UNESCO World Heritage town of Berat (Best Things to Do in Berat) before reaching Sarandë. This makes for a beautiful scenic drive along the Albanian Riviera.
If you’re focusing solely on visiting Sarandë, the closest airport is Corfu (CFU) Airport in Greece, only 30.7 km away.
The easiest way to reach Sarandë from Corfu is by ferry. We recommend booking your ferry tickets online at least a day in advance, and even earlier if you’re travelling during peak season.
Ferries run multiple times a day, with a one-way ticket averaging around $15 USD, and the journey takes only 30–45 minutes. Before you know it, you’ll be in holiday mode in Albania!
